Poem of the Virtuous Woman

As they grow up, I’ll teach my sons just what their wives should be
A noble woman of virtuous charm, the woman from A to Z
But it’s my goal to make sure that through my life they see
The qualities of this virtuous woman, exemplified in me
So with that I will strive to be rare and precious in form
Through all things, trust in my Lord, even when it’s not the norm
I’ll be loyal in all I do, worthy of my family’s trust
Keep my word as God does His is definitely a must
I’ll be constant in the love I give, and do my husband good
Keep all evil from our home, just like a woman should
Industrious I will be as I work diligently with my hands
And not afraid to bring our home goods from distant lands
I will rise up in the morning each and every given day
And make sure that my family continues to live in a blessed way
I will turn my ideas into a profit, the fruit of my labor will feed
Filling up my family’s belly, leaving them without a need
I am not afraid to work real hard, for it only strengthens my back
And gives me assurance that my family will never ever lack
When the sun goes down and my family is in bed sleeping sound
Burning the midnight oil is where I’ll always be found
Monotonous work may scare some, but for me, it’s my heart’s desire
For repetition breeds excellence, of which I’ll never tire
I may not have all that I want, but there are many who have less
So I will give to those in need, and pray that they be blessed
I will prepare for the unforeseen, and fear not what lies ahead
Being thrifty in the present, and saving my money instead
I will be a woman of noticeable means, take care of myself as well
So that when I go into the city, everyone call tell
My husband can be a leader, for home gives him no concern
He can trust me with all he has, his reputation I helped him earn
I’ll use my gifts and talents to run a business of my own
I’ll dress myself in strength and honor, and resist from casting stones
Wise and kind will be my ways, for limited in number are my days
Busy in my home I’ll stay, for idleness never pays
My family will bless me as they raise, my husband will give me joyful praise
My virtue will be longstanding, not simply a passing phase
I will bless and fear the Lord, in EVERYTHING that I do
And be honored when my sons tell me “I found someone like you”.
