Mama's Like a Bird Now
a book of poetry

Imagine this:  I was 14, in the 9th grade, living in San Jose with my boyfriend from 8th grade and his mother.  My father was temporarily living in the Dominican Republic.  Life was crazy, complicated, and confusing for me.  But, school has always been "my thing" and learning was my place of refuge.  I was taking advanced classes in school and my language arts teacher gave us a poetry assignment.  For that assignment, I wrote, Mama's Like a Bird Now.  Since then, writing has been my way of coping with life, enjoying life, celebrating life, and documenting life.  To read  my poetry is to read my life's story.  To read my poetry is to listen to my conversations with God.  Sometimes, I'm talking to God; more recently I've realized, other times, God is talking to me.  Since the age of 14, I have explored various forms of writing and they all help give voice to different parts of my mind, heart, and spirit.

Here, I present to you, my first collection of poetry:  Mama's Like a Bird Now.
